From Cárdenas to the Big Stage: Gallardo’s Football Journey
Few Mexican players have matched the steady rise and resilience of Jesús Gallardo. Born in the sun-drenched town of Cárdenas, Tabasco, in August 1994, Gallardo didn’t explode onto the scene overnight. His route was more a marathon than a sprint, starting at local youth setups like Once Hermanos and Jaguares de la 48. He joined UNAM’s youth squad in 2013—an important springboard in his career.
Rapid progress saw Gallardo make his first-team debut for UNAM a year later. Over the course of four seasons, he racked up 82 appearances and chipped in with 11 goals, a striking tally for a player who would eventually make his name on the left flank. His big leap came in 2018 with a move to Monterrey. In this new chapter, Gallardo transformed into a consistent starter in the fierce world of Liga MX.
